We were watching some old family movies the other night. These were only 20-25 years old, but one thing stood out that I believe we are all miss even with all the exciting things we have now.
These movies were of my niece and nephews, and I know they would have had similar movies of my brothers and me. I think it's a common belief among new parents and grandparents that kids need more toys and things. Watch a child open a gift, discard the toy and play with the box. Or open a cupboard, and watch children spend seemingly endless time playing with simple pots and pans without getting bored. Give a child a small chair or stool, and they will climb in and out of it learning how, getting better and entertaining themselves. I've experienced three generations of this, and it is the same story through all three.
Faster, easier and high-tech might be fun and exciting, but for a deep, satisfying fulfillment, in my mind, simple wins hands down.
It's the same idea with Classic Cars; working on them was easier. You hear the old cars were fast or the mostly unspoken comment because the hot cars got the hot girls. I know they like classic cars because of the ability and satisfaction of doing the work themselves. I think we can all agree, much like these old movies, the old cars bring us back to simpler times and fun.

I used to think it was just old guys fascination with cars and reliving their youth. I was wrong. Here is what I found in observing and questioning, what is the fascination with old cars?.
Maybe theses classic cars take you back in time. Remind you of your youth. But that doesn't explain the love affair many younger people today's have with these same cars.
It's true. This Saturday and Sunday, June 10th and 11th is Back To The Bricks in downtown Cadillac.
Car enthusiast of all ages from all over the country have different taste when it comes to a type or year of car, but these folks all have one thing in common... nothing compares to the sights and sounds of the classic cars.
From 16-year-old Gavin "I enjoy working on older cars and trucks because it gives me a sense of connection to a time when things were not so complicated, and there's so much more space to make the car yours."
Customization seems to be a big part of why they love their cars. These guys and gals love to make the vehicle their own whether it's the paint job, the interior, beef up the engine or other special touches there is pride in artistry and ownership.
23-year-old Derek says " I like to work on old vehicles because they are usually simpler to work on. I find it interesting on how they did things back in the day compared to now. Moreover, I like the looks and design of them."
I saw Vickie, a woman in her 40's, and her 1968 Mustang at the gas station. She has owned it for about 13 years. Vickie finished the exterior, dark purple with two broad white stripes down the hood. She is now finishing the interior; it was stripped down ready to start when I saw it. The men just couldn't stop looking. One man drove into the gas station and drove slowly actually, creeping along, staring at her car, yes the car; she was inside the store at the time. When she came out, two other guys started talking to her about her car. I got a chance to talk to and asked Vickie what she loved about old cars " I love the way they look, the design. I love the muscle cars. You can't find anything like that now even the ones they are bringing back isn't the same. And they're FAST!"
A lot of these folks have the satisfaction of doing the work themselves. These cars are their pride and joy.
They love getting together and showing their cars and love meeting the people. They all say these cars are just fun to drive.
I don't think there will ever be a love affair for newer cars like there is for these old classics.
Classic cars aren't just for old folks reliving their youth.
21 yr old Austin "I love the look, " and with his eyes getting wide with a small child amazement he added "and they're FAST!"
